1 Samuel 15:2-3

(NIV) 2 "This is what the LORD Almighty says: 'I will punish the Amalekites for what they did to Israel when they waylaid them as they came up from Egypt. 3 Now go, attack the Amalekites and totally destroy everything that belongs to them. Do not spare them; put to death men and women, children and infants, cattle and sheep, camels and donkeys.' "

Pro

An action can moral or immoral depending upon the motive that attaches to the action. For example, the act of tripping someone can be both moral or immoral contingent upon the tripper's motive. If someone tripped an individual to enjoy seeing pain inflicted, the action is immoral. If someone tripped an indivudual to keep that individual for getting hit my a speeding bus, the action is commendable.

Notice that here, Samuel justifying the murder of infants, women and children for the crimes of long dead ancestors. This justification makes the action evil. It is also contrary to Deuteronomy 24:16. Bill--205.175.225.23 11:38, 23 Oct 2005 (CDT)

God may have just given a rational that would have made sense to the Israelites. His true motivations may be hidden.
