JW:

JOSEPH

The English:

"the [son] of Maath, the [son] of Mattathias, the [son] of Semein, the [son] of Josech, the [son] of Joda," (ASV)

The Greek:

"??? ???? ??? ????????? ??? ?????? ??? ????? ??? ????"

"?????" (Josech), 3rd word from the Right.

The Textual Variation:

WH - "?????"

TR - "?????"

The JW:

"?????" is the Transliteration for "Josech". "?????" is the Transliteration for "Joseph". "Yosafe" is the Transliteration for the Hebrew name (trust me on this one). "?????" is the Standard Greek Transliteration for "Joseph" while "?????" (Josech) would only have significance in Greek as a Transliteration variation for "Joseph". Subsequent Christianity Improved on the Original Name here because it was an important and well known name.

JUDAH

The English:

"the [son] of Maath, the [son] of Mattathias, the [son] of Semein, the [son] of Josech, the [son] of Joda," (ASV)

The Greek:

"??? ???? ??? ????????? ??? ?????? ??? ????? ??? ????"

????" (Joda), last word on the Right.

The Textual Variation:

WH - "????"

TR - "?????"

The JW:

"????" is the Transliteration for "Joda". "?????" is the Transliteration for "Judah". "Yehudah" is the Transliteration for the Hebrew name. "?????" is the Standard Greek Transliteration for "Judah" while "????" (Joda) presumably would only have significance in Greek as a Transliteration variation for "Judah". Subsequent Christianity Improved on the Original Name here because it was an important and well known name.

Here is an important observation for the serious Bible student (no charge). If you go through the Names in the Genealogies you will find that in General where a name is otherwise unknown/unimportant there is relatively little Textual Variation. Where a name is known/important there is relatively more Textual variation. This is Evidence that Textual Variation is more Likely due to Intentional Editing than Unintentional Copying Error. This observation is compatible with the Assumption that the Cause of Textual Error is more likely in the Original than Editing because Editors would likely have more knowledge than the Originator.

Forceful Evidence for the Superiority of WH over TR.
