Talk:Judges 1:19

That is the most ridiculous excuse I've ever heard. The verse states clearly "And Jehovah was with Judah" and "he could not drive out the inhabitants of the valley". This clearly tells us that Jehovah supported the Israelites but could not win. It's right there in plain english. Franc28 22:20, 17 Aug 2005 (CDT)

Oh, thanks ! Although I would have expressed it more um... elaborately ? Although, how complex can you make such a simple reading exercise ? Franc28 03:02, 18 Aug 2005 (CDT)

Targum Yonatan

Targum Yonatan says that the Israelites weren't able to drive out the inhabitants of the valley with Iron Chariots because they had sinned. Is this worth mentioning in the "Con" section?--Dead.hobbit 22:31, 4 Sep 2005 (CDT)

It's interesting, and certainly relevant ... but the counter is probably going to be on the lines of "Well, if they sinned, why was YHVH with them?"
For my part, I'd put it in the Misc section, as it is post-text commentary.

You loose some, You win some

Thw way that I happen to read the quote it is possible to interpret it such that jehovah was with Judah, and therefore Judan was able to drive out the inhabitants of the hill-country, but "he", that is, Judah, could not drive out the inhabitants of the valley, not anly because they had those ironic chariots, but also because Jehovah was not with Judah in that fight. So, the purpose is to show that without the help of Jehovah, Judah has no strength. Well. just my reading of the quote :-) --FreezBee 11:08, 26 Jan 2006 (CST)
