The following has been moved from Con to Talk:

"It may be that "son of God" was a later addition but proof is lacking. Codex Sinaiticus (Aleph) omits it and on this basis, some argue for its exclusion.

Support for the accuracy of the phrase in found in 1:9-11--

9 It came to pass in those days that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized by John in the Jordan.

10 And immediately, coming up from the water, He saw the heavens parting and the Spirit descending upon Him like a dove.

11 Then a voice came from heaven, “You are My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”

The accuracy of the phrase is not contested, only whether it should appear in 1:1. The addition of "son of God" to 1:1 does nothing but prepare the reader to that which he reads in 1:9-11. It's omission does not detract from that which is said in 1:9-11. No one has identified any doctrinal issues that would arise either through the addition or omission of "son of God" in this verse. Thus, the phrase, "son of God," does not introduce error into one's understanding of the first 11 verses."

False statements are not permitted at ErrancyWiki and the above has the following false statements:

1) "Codex Sinaiticus (Aleph) omits it and on this basis, some argue for its exclusion."

2) "The accuracy of the phrase is not contested, only whether it should appear in 1:1"

3) "No one has identified any doctrinal issues that would arise either through the addition or omission of "son of God" in this verse"

This argument has one month to correct the false statements or it will be removed from this Page.
